Dear Camping Friends,
I take great pride in welcoming you here, to our communication platform, which for many of you is the gateway to the world of camping, caravanning and motorcaravanning, and to our organisation the “Fédération Internationale de Camping, Caravanning et de Autocaravaning” (F.I.C.C.).
If you are a newcomer, I invite you to read through our publications and explore our website in order to understand and get the measure of the true spirit of camping, caravanning and motorcaravanning. To those who are already part of the F.I.C.C. family, this is where you can find out more about our activities, upcoming events and recent developments and share the expectations and vision we have for the future of the camping sector.
The true camping experience means embracing nature, exploring the world and enjoying the freedom of outdoor living in a tent, caravan or motorcaravan. F.I.C.C.’s structure and those who work within it are dedicated to achieving these aims.
But we also invite you to reflect on the concept behind this lifestyle and consider how it has evolved over the years. Start by thinking back on the past and memories of simpler times: the pleasures of tasting freedom, socialising with friends, companionship, contact with nature, respect for the environment and the sheer pleasure of camping in whatever shape or form.
Basically nothing has really changed since the days of our ancestors, people still love this type of traditional tourism. It may come as a surprise to hear that camping, caravanning and motorcaravanning are the most ancient and traditional forms of tourism all over the world. In actual fact, camping started more than three thousand years ago - and even caravanning dates back to the 16th century although in those days it involved a horse and cart or a sailing boat.
The spirit of camping, caravanning and motorcaravanning has never disappeared - on the contrary it is gaining ground in modern society, largely thanks to F.I.C.C.’s influence and support.
F.I.C.C. is continually seeking to promote the type of freedom that is characterised by camping, caravanning and motorcaravanning. At a time when so many people are adversely affected by complex global economic problems, we believe that getting away from it all and enjoying the natural world in the company of family and friends are positive forces that refresh and energize us in readiness for our return to the workaday world. Experienced campers and caravanners know what I mean and will identify with this sentiment.
In addition to relaxing body and mind, this form of tourism brings people together, humanises relationships and encourages sharing at all levels. And it does not cost a fortune either!
Finally, it is important to realise that you can count on us whether you are a camper, caravanner or motorcaravanner. F.I.C.C. is the only worldwide organisation solely devoted to camping, caravanning and motorcaravanning that represents the interests of campers wherever they are. F.I.C.C. was originally established in 1933, for the mutual benefit of a number of European camping clubs. Today, we represent 67 member clubs and federations in 38 different countries the world over.
F.I.C.C. has undoubtedly contributed to making camping, caravanning and motorcaravanning so popular around the world. It has worked tirelessly encouraging better campsite infrastructure, advances in laws and regulations, the application of modern technologies and attracting young people to camping activities. Looking to the future and aware of the real needs and aspirations of campers and motorcaravanners, F.I.C.C. is continually welcoming new members to the organisation. It also maintains close relations with other similar international associations that represent consumers, campsites and even the camping, caravanning and motorcaravanning industry itself.
This is just a sample of F.I.C.C.’s dynamic and diverse activities and we invite you to find out more about our organisation which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Come and join this great family that lives by the principle that even when times are as difficult as they are now, nothing is insurmountable. All one needs is determination and sound objectives to ensure a successful future.
F.I.C.C. continues to grow and will promote, defend and develop the camping, caravanning and motorcaravanning sector with renewed energy and optimism in the knowledge that it can count on your cooperation. Spread the word around and tell your friends and acquaintances about camping and that it is such a great and positive experience! Mention the feel-good factor, the outdoor life and its beautiful flora and fauna, all of which is there to be enjoyed in the company of like-minded nature lovers!
