As already announced in our January edition, Austria has introduced a regulation for a compulsory central emergency lane in the event of an accident. A similar measure has also been adopted in Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
Traffic in the left hand lane must move as far to the left as possible and traffic in the right hand lane must move to the far right and use the hard shoulder/emergency lane. The rule is the same for multi-lane highways: vehicles on the left move left and all other vehicles move right.
