The final stretch (36 kms) of the A1 motorway between Yarnbol and Karnobat in Bulgaria has finally been finished and was opened in July. The A1 links the capital Sofia with Burgas on the Black Sea via Plovdiv. Work started in 1973, some 40 years ago, but stopped because of corruption scandals and lack of money. The Trakia motorway is 360 kms long and is part of the European E80.
