Wasp and bees nests

Date: 18/07/2013

There are always bees, bumblebees and wasps around during the warm summer months. However, if you see lots of wasps flying around in a confined area, you can be sure that there is a nest nearby. One nest can house thousands of wasps and, if it is disturbed, they will swarm and will attack anyone in the vicinity. If a nest represents a danger to people it must be destroyed, usually by the fire brigade.

Bees and bumblebees are far less aggressive. Bees are very useful insects and some varieties are now in real danger of extinction. So bees nests should not be disturbed and if a nest does appear to pose a threat i.e. if it is in your home, you should contact the fire brigade or a beekeeper who can remove the nest carefully and safely to another location.
