Yet again Spain was afflicted by wildfires this summer, some of which occurred naturally while others were caused by arsonists with criminal intent. These fires cause extensive, sometimes irreparable damage to the countryside and wildlife and to people’s possessions. They have even cost people their lives. Altogether 100,000 hectares went up in flames and the Valencia area was particularly badly hit. A number of campsites were also damaged by fire especially in Girona, Gata, Madrid, Zaragoza and on the Canary Islands.
